The House of Representatives passed the Economic Stimulus Package last evening. The bill was approved by a vote of 244 to 188, with no Republicans voting in favor of it.
President Obama attempted to win Republican support for the legislation, but failed to do so. “I hope that we can continue to strengthen this plan before it gets to my desk,” he said. “But what we can’t do is drag our feet or allow the same partisan differences to get in our way” (The New York Times, 1-29-09).
The bill will now move to the Senate where it is expected to be voted on sometime next week.
Stay tuned for new developments…
