Posted by Joe Arite on February 27th, 2009

The House of Representatives passed the FY 2009 omnibus spending bill on Wednesday, February 25. The Senate will consider the bill the week of March 2, 2009. The Continuing Resolution that is funding most of the federal government expires on March 6, 2009, so action must be completed by week’s end.

The bill includes $30.317 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including $4.968 for the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Remember that the funds for NIH in the economic stimulus package are in addition to these amounts

In addition to the funding for NIH and NCI, the bill includes a total of $2.664 billion for the Food and Drug Administration, which is an increase of $398 million.
