Dr. Edith Mitchell, specialist in gastrointestinal oncology at the Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, has been given the Tree of Life Award from the Wellness of You, a Philadelphia nonprofit providing health education and resources.
The award honors health professionals who are committed to making a difference in community health.
In accepting the Tree of Life Award, Dr. Mitchell said,
I am honored to accept this award from The Wellness of You organization whose purpose is to help individuals in medically underserved areas realize that simple changes in lifestyle can have a dramatic impact on one’s health. Their mission matches my own in regards to the importance of community outreach especially to those individuals who may not have the means to seek out more conventional medical advice.
In addition to her work teaching at Jefferson Medical College and doing research and treating patients at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, Dr. Mitchell is a retired Brigadier General in the Air National Guard. She also serves on the C3 Medical Review Network.
