The first of several community Get Your Rear in Gear races will be held in Lafayette, Louisiana on February 28, 2009 with a Kid’s 1 Mile Run at 8:00 a.m. following by a timed 5K Walk/Run at 8:30.
Get Your Rear in Gear events are overseen by the Colon Cancer Coalition to raise awareness of colorectal cancer in communities across the nation. They provide support and hope for those who have had their lives affected by the nation’s second leading cause of cancer deaths and to encourage everyone to get screened for colorectal cancer.

Thank you for joining us for the 2nd Annual Lafayette Get Your Rear in Gear event. All participants will receive a dri-fit running shirt and goodie bag as well as complimentary door prize entries.
Refreshments, food, and DJ services will be provided so come out and dance a little and enjoy some great Cajun food while helping to fight colorectal cancer in Louisiana.
Additional Get Your Rear in Gear events are planned during March Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month:
More events are planned for the Twin Cities, Chicago, Rochester MN, Colchester VT, Central Minnesota, Central Ohio, San Francisco, and Alexandria VA throughout the rest of 2009.
Rear in Gear events don’t necessarily have to be races or walks. Anything that promotes colon cancer awareness can be developed into a community event. Here’s more information about starting your own activity. Funds raised in a state are re-invested there to promote awareness, prevention, and screening or can be sent to the Colon Cancer Coalition to support the national organization.
