FTC Shuts Down Phony Colon Cleanser Ads and Customer Scams

Colopure BottleThe Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has obtained a US federal court order to stop an Internet marketing scheme that deceptively sells Colopure, a so-called colon cleanser, acai berry supplements, and other products.

In addition to false claims that the products prevent cancer and promote weight loss, the company cheats consumers by promising a “free” or “risk-free” trial and then charging credit cards, not once but monthly.  Consumers who tried to stop the billing had difficulty reaching the company to do so and telephone staff were actively urged to lie to customers who called to complain. Appeals Court Lifts Ban on Stem Cell Research

This afternoon the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia lifted a temporary injunction barring the federal government from funding research involving human embryonic stem cell research. The Court said that the federal government could resume funding the research pending a full appeal of the case.

Carlea Bauman, President of the Colorectal Cancer Coaliton issued the following statement after the ruling,

“We applaud the Court of Appeals for its action. Embryonic stem cell research plays an important role in the scientific battle against many diseases – and federal funding is vital to this type of research. We urge Congress to act quickly so that not another day is wasted.”

In the past, we have held quarterly conference calls to hear from you about the great work each and every one of you has been doing in the fight against colorectal cancer and to update you on what we have been working on and what Congress has been up to. But you all have been doing too much for us to only hear from you once a quarter!

How Real is Chemobrain?

Brain MRI’s before and chemotherapy found changes in brains of women being treated for breast cancer.

Women who had breast cancer surgery but didn’t have chemo had similar changes, but they were less severe. Brains of healthy women remained stable.

Changes were in gray matter in areas of the brain involving memory and the ability to process information.

The chances of your colonoscopy resulting in the made-for-TV near-death experience that Dr. Mehmet Oz detailed in a six-part video series on his show and website are highly unlikely. See, Dr. Oz didn’t have a near-death experience, and his colonoscopy story is very common. So can we cut it out with the hysterics, Dr. Oz? You’re scaring people.
