Magnolia Foundation Joins Effort to Pay for Colonoscopies in Georgia

Medically underserved residents of three Georgia counties will be able to get a free screening colonoscopy thanks to a collaborative effort developed by the Magnolia Foundation and the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition.

Financially eligible people from 50 to 69 in Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon and Polk counties without insurance coverage to pay for screening can apply through their local county health department.  Younger people at higher risk for colorectal cancer because of a family or personal medical history are also included. FDA Warns About Maalox Mixups

Think that Maalox Total Relief is the same as the traditional Maalox liquids?

It isn’t, and the FDA wants you to know that.

Although both are available over the counter, they are intended to treat different medical conditions.  Maalox Total Relief contains bismuth subsalicylate, which is related to aspirin and can cause bleeding and other serious side effects. Read the rest of this entry »

Blueberries and Colon Cancer

C3 Advocates Contribute to RFA Effectiveness Review

How useful is radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treating liver metastases from colorectal cancer?

To answer that question, American Society for Clinical Oncology scientists included two C3 advocates, Rob Michelson and Dr. Andrew Guisti, on an expert panel looking at published RFA research.

In appreciation, the panel dedicated their Clinical Evidence Review to Michelson who died in January, 2008.

The Expert Panel wishes to dedicate this Clinical Evidence Review to Rob Michelson, who served as the patient representative at the Panel meeting in October 2007 and passed away early in 2008. His contributions at the meeting and as a reviewer of the first draft were substantive and thought provoking.

Deciding on the best way to manage liver metastases from colorectal cancer isn’t easy. It’s best done with the involvement of  multidisciplinary team of doctors and thoughtful discussion with the patient.
