Forum Will Identify Key Colorectal Cancer Issues in Western North Carolina

Are you a colorectal cancer survivor living in Western North Carolina?

Or are you someone who treats colon and rectal cancer patients in that region?

Both survivors and health care professionals are invited to come together at a one day networking forum at the Wind River Cancer Wellness Center on June 30th to identify the critical issues important to people living in Western North Carolina and share local resources for survivors. The event, including lunch, is free, but registration is required.

Cross the Bridge to End Colorectal Cancer

The Colon Club says that Colorectal Cancer is a Big Dam Problem. They are inviting people to join the models from the 2009 Colondar on September 6th to cross the Big Dam Bridge between Little Rock and and North Little Rock to raise awareness of colorectal cancer in Arkansas.

The Colondar features young colon or rectal cancer survivors who show off their scars for the photographer.

WHY:To raise awareness about colorectal cancer in Arkansas

Registered GI Gallopers, who pay the registration fee of $30, will receive a 2009 Colondar, a t-shirt that commemorates their Big Dam Walk, and a gift bag.

Colorectal cancer survivors can walk for free and will also get a Colondar, t-shirt, and gift bag.

Want to walk “virtually”? You can also receive a shirt and Colondar by registering as Prevention Pretender.

The Colon Club and its founders are dedicated to what they call “crazy projects” to increase awareness of colorectal cancer, particularly among young people.

Group Room Radio to Feature Gastrointestinal Cancers

The Group Room, a national cancer talk radio program, will feature gastrointestinal cancers on its July 13th show. Following up on the recent American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Chicago, Selma Schimmel will interview two leading researchers in colorectal and pancreatic cancer and take telephone questions.

Leroy Sievers On NPR Talk of the Nation Wednesday

Leroy Sievers will appear with Elizabeth Edwards on National Public Radio’s Talk of the Nation on Wednesday, July 9th in the 3 to 4 p.m. section of the show. Ted Koppel, who worked with Sievers for 14 years on Nightline will host the program.

Sievers, who has metastatic colorectal cancer, writes a regular web log for NPR — My Cancer. The blog has built a strong community of supportive commentors, who read and respond to Sievers daily.

Edwards and Sievers will be interviewed remotely. However, Talk of the Nation will be broadcast for a live audience from the Newseum in Washington.
