Fight Colorectal Cancer Thanks President Obama for Presidential Proclamation

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mar. 12, 2014 - ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month got off to a great start with a Presidential Proclamation from the White House. On Feb. 28, President Obama issued a statement recognizing March 2014 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. President Obama’s proclamation is the first in over a decade. President Clinton issued the first proclamation recognizing March as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in 2000. The last proclamation spotlighting colorectal cancer was in 2003 by President George W. Our Request to Obama: A Presidential Proclamation for March 2014

You might remember that in December, Rep. Donald Payne, Jr. (D-NJ) wrote a letter to President Obama asking him to issue a presidential proclamation recognizing March 2014 as Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Payne and 145 of our members of Congress signed on this letter to show support. This month, colorectal cancer advocates took one more step toward that goal. As a nonprofit dedicated to colon and rectal cancer advocacy, we wrote another letter to President Obama.
