by Danielle Burgess It’s difficult to adequately describe the emotion of Friday night for me. As a teen colon cancer survivor, attending Stand Up to Cancer felt like a “Make a Wish” moment. But my trip to Hollywood last weekend was so much more than that. UNITED AND STANDING UP TO CANCER

THE STARS ALIGN FOR CANCER RESEARCH Along with the stars of Hollywood, we were invited to participate in the Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) “red carpet” activities and sent our very own Director of Communications and two-time colorectal cancer survivor Danielle Burgess to cover the action and hopefully snag a few million strong-arm poses along the way! Statistics show that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. This is why an event like Stand Up to Cancer is so significant. At this event, celebrities and numerous organizations unite as one to emphasize the importance of raising funds for cancer research.

Scientists and Advocates Rally for Medical Research

The annual scientific meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research took a little lunch break on Monday, April 8th in Washington, D.C., while the attendees streamed outside to join a crowd of several thousand gathered across the street for a loud street rally. “When [Congress] sees a grassroots movement rising up from doctors, from scientists, from advocates, and patients, you become impossible to ignore,” cancer survivor Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) told the cheering crowd. (Watch video of the speakers here.) Stars, Networks Stand Up To Cancer Tonight

Tonight, September 10 at 8PM Eastern/7PM Central, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX will join in a simultaneous broadcast to Stand Up to Cancer. HBO, Discovery Health, E!, MLB Network and The Style Network will also carry the show this year. Stars from television, movies, music and sports will join cancer survivors in an effort to raise money for cancer research.
