Top 10 Reasons To Attend Call-on Congress

by advocate Belle Piazza

Call on Congress 2014 is just around the corner – registration is open now! Health permitting, I will be there with my two kiddos – ready to learn, ready to socialize and ready to make my voice heard! So why should YOU attend Call on Congress? Well, I’m glad you asked!

I hope you’ll join us. Here’s why.

#10 – Call-on  Congress is in D.C.

You do realize Call-on Congress is in D.C., don’t you? Have you been to D.C.? If you haven’t toured the monuments, you simply have to go. They will educate you, inspire you and awe you. This is simply a must see for anyone living in or visiting the United States.

#9 – Take a tour of the Capitol!

You can arrange capitol tours, free of charge, through your state representative’s office. Unsure of your representative? Visit www.house.gov and enter your zip code. Good info to know since you’ll be meeting with your representative’s office during Call-on Congress.

#8 – Connect with other survivors and advocates.

You are not alone. Meeting other survivors, their friends, families and advocates from across the country lets you know that you are not alone in this fight.

#7 – Meet the staff at Fight Colorectal Cancer.

Put a face to a name and meet people who work all year long to support funding for research, treatment and screening for colorectal cancer — the staff of Fight Colorectal Cancer.

#6 – See Cutting-Edge Treatments.

Educate yourself on the science behind cutting-edge treatments for colorectal cancer. Meet some of the researchers who are working hard to improve treatment options for patients.

#5 – Make New Friends.

In between all of the education, history and political lessons you’ll be exposed to, you’re going to find that you’re meeting some truly wonderful people and creating life-long friendships.

#4 – Get Grassroots Training.

From your training sessions and through connecting with others you meet during Call-on Congress, you will find out how you can bring this message back home to your own community.

#3 –You Get to Go to the Hill.

Once you’ve had some time to soak in D.C. and get trained on advocacy by Fight Colorectal Cancer, it’s time for the highlight of your stay. This is it – you’re going to Capital Hill to meet with your legislators! You may not think you’re ready – but you are. You may not realize you have a voice – but you do. This is your moment. Enjoy it and take your message loud and clear to The Hill!

#2 – Pull out those blue suede shoes!

That’s right; it’s a party – a big blue one! The celebration dinner and party following our day on Capital Hill will finish off your time in D.C. in style. Wear your best blue and plan on lots of celebrating, fun times and quite possibly a conga line!

#1 –Make a Difference.

Throughout Call-on Congress, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll know that YOU are making a difference. You didn’t chose to have colorectal cancer come in and screw up an otherwise-charmed life. But it did.

Cancer in and of itself, you don’t necessarily have control over. But you can control how you react to it. Come join us in D.C. and let your voice be heard. For yourself, for your friends, for your family and for future generations.

One person CAN make a difference and that one person is YOU.
