In May 2019, Joanna Haydon’s life unexpectedly changed when she was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer at 31 years of age.
As of today, she is a cancer survivor who strongly believes in the power of patient advocacy and education. During radiation and chemotherapy, Joanna refused to allow her cancer diagnosis to rule all aspects of her life, so she continued to teach cycling classes at CycleBar in St. Louis. She believes the power and support from her fitness community and the much-needed sweat sessions kept her mind focused and body healthy.
Joanna is an attorney for the Illinois Fifth District Appellate Court, a Top 10 Fundraiser for Pedal the Cause (an annual charity cycling event that raises money for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis—where Joanna received cancer treatment), and on the board of directors for Fight Colorectal Cancer.
