Lance Barbour, MPH

Sr. Manager, State and Local Campaigns; American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network

Lance Barbour, MPH earned his undergraduate degrees in Biology and Psychology from Virginia Tech. He then later pursed a master’s in public health with a concentration in Health Promotion.

While studying for his master’s degree in Public Health, he worked as a Psychiatric Counselor for children and adolescents in Baltimore, MD. During this time, he also served as an intern for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, assisting the Maryland and Washington, DC advocacy teams.

He and his wife moved from Baltimore, MD to Lake Charles, LA, where he served as the Marketing Director for the Vein Center of Southwest Louisiana. Passionate about health and reducing the cancer burden in Louisiana, Lance found his way back to ACS CAN and served as the Grassroots Manager for the state of Louisiana for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network from 2016 to 2017. He then served in a new role as the Louisiana Government Relations Director from 2017 to 2019.

Since 2019, Lance has served as the Sr. State and Local Campaign Manager for ACS CAN, where he has helped support state teams working to pass legislation in cancer prevention and access to care issues. Lance currently provides states guidance in several areas related to access to care: colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, state comprehensive cancer control programs and cancer registries, and is the point person for health equity issues. He also serves as a member of ACS CAN’s Medicaid Covers Us team.

Lance lives in Zachary, LA with his wife, Courtney, and two children, Micaiah and Gloriana.
