Maia joined the FightCRC team to serve as Lead Curator of the Fight CRC Trial Finder after volunteering much of her time with the organization.
For more than twenty years, she has been a book editor, working in the private and public sector. When a close friend was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in 2012, Maia employed her researching and critical thinking skills involved in her profession in order to help her. She became a patient advocate online, promoting patient and caregiver education about clinical trials and helping others understand the emerging field of immunotherapy for CRC on several internet forums and social media platforms.
Maia believes that transforming information overload into knowledge, practically relevant for the colorectal cancer community, is fundamental. This helps patients have better informed conversations with their doctors and contributes to advance the field so there are more cures, sooner. “To help, I use any resources I might have. I feel grateful to work alongside the passionate team at Fight CRC to hopefully make a difference, for as many patients and families as possible.”
She enjoys living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with her husband, her daughter and their two dogs.
