Chad Schrack, a Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC) advocate, will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest single free-standing mountain in the world, September 17-23. Schrack is climbing to raise awareness and funds for colorectal cancer (CRC), a disease his wife was diagnosed with at age 38 and overcame.

Over the years, Schrack and his wife Sheila have been unstoppable when it comes to raising awareness for CRC, from mountain climbing to meeting with members of Congress members to discuss policy change. He will be joining a group, who will be climbing the infamous mountain to kick off the new year and support the fight against CRC.

"Every year for more than 20 years, some friends and I get together to climb a mountain," said Schrack. "We often spoke about hiking Mount Kilimanjaro, and we booked a trip. We will spend seven days hiking in honor of those battling colorectal cancer and in memory of those we lost."

This won’t be the first extreme challenge Schrack has taken on to raise awareness and funds for CRC. He was one of the original founders of Climb for a Cure, which began as not just a hike up a mountain but a movement that survivors, caregivers, and loved ones from across the country now participate in. The first Climb for a Cure was born in Longs Peak, Colorado in 2015 and since then the Climb has raised over $500,000.

Additionally, in  2018, he did the “Cancer Stroll” where he walked across the country starting in Arlington, Virginia, and ending in Venice Beach, California. His childhood best friend Luke Perry joined him on the final stretch. The Schracks also host an annual fundraising event, Cold for a Cure, in their hometown, where participants jump into a local lake in Ohio on January 1 each year.

“We’re so fortunate to have such passionate advocates like Chad and Sheila,” said Anjee Davis, president of Fight CRC. “They understand firsthand the effect this disease has on patients and their families. They are dedicated to ensuring people understand the importance of regular screening for early detection. Chad continues to raise awareness for this disease through Climb for a Cure, walking across the country, advocating at Call-on Congress, and now climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, and he inspires us all!"

Mount Kilimanjaro at 19,341 feet high is Schrack’s latest challenge. Schrack will be carrying a Fight CRC flag in honor of Sheila, a stage IIIc colon cancer survivor, and all CRC survivors from around the world.
