Meet the Guest:

Dr. Jaime Bruce is a professor at Middle Tennessee State University in the Human Sciences Department. Her primary areas of interests include children in healthcare settings and building resiliency in families. When she is not teaching in the Child Development and Family Studies program, she continues to practice clinically as a certified child life specialist at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Although this role allows her the opportunity to engage families in all areas of the hospital, Dr. Bruce has developed a particular expertise related to the intensive care experience, children of adult patients, end-of-life care, and sibling engagement.

Dr. Bruce received her Master of Arts in Child Life from Mills College in Oakland, CA and her Doctor of Public Health from Boston University in Boston, MA. She has been a member of the Association of Child Life Professionals since 2003 and has served in various volunteer and leadership roles including Conference Planning Committee member, Executive Editor of Focus/Bulletin, Nominating Committee member, and Research committee member. Outside of ACLP, Dr. Bruce is a member of the National Council on Family Relations, American Public Health Association, and Southeastern Association of Child Life Professionals. She is an active member of the Review Boards for both the Journal of Supportive Care in Cancer and the newly launched The Journal of Child Life: Psychosocial Theory and Practice.
