"I have stage IVb recurring colorectal cancer.I was first diagnosed at 38. I knew something was wrong, but all of my doctors said I was fine. That was until I had to go to the ER because I was suddenly anemic. I eat healthy, I don’t drink, and I work out but when they did a colonoscopy, they found the tumor. 10 rounds of chemotherapy, 4 surgeries, 5 rounds of radiation, and so much pain.I went into remission but not even a year went by before I had the same symptoms. My primary doctor said it’s gastric and my gastroenterologist said it’s IBS. A CT scan and a colonoscopy failed to diagnose me. The cancer showed up in PET scan. Once again it is stage IV. The tumor is inoperable and only chemotherapy and radiation can help. This time there is a 5 % remission rate and only a 32% chance chemotherapy will work.Unfortunately, the second time around, I’m more prepared and know what to expect. I’m only 40 years old now and can’t have children due to the cancer." - Rebecca Goins. If colorectal cancer has impacted you in any way, head to the link in bio to share your story.

Let's make sure colorectal cancer remains a national priority.
The CDMRP funds bold research that changes lives. It supports breakthrough science, centers patient voices, and fuels the next generation of researchers. But #ColorectalCancer? We've spent 10+ years competing with 20+ other cancers for funding, with no strategic plan to guide investment. It's time for a stand-alone program. Help us fight for it!
"I remember my mom returning from “seeing one of her friends “and telling my middle sister and me to meet her in her bedroom. We sat down, and that’s when she told us she didn’t meet a friend; she went to the doctor, and she had colon cancer stage IV. I was 10 years old, and my mom was 50. Later, I found out she had been having a lot of symptoms, but she dismissed them. She was a single mother with three kids, one studying in another country (U.S.), one in high school, and the other (me) in elementary school, so she kept working and didn’t go to the doctor until she needed to.She had been throwing up and had blood on her poop, was very constipated, and barely ate.A few weeks after telling the family and us, we moved to my aunt’s house, where she could take care of Mom while my sister and I were in school; later, my oldest sibling came back to take care of her." - Jimena Gaytan, 2025 Ambassador.
