In the fall of 2022, @timamcdonald wrote in Beyond Blue, "I hope to get to ring the bell, but I may never know when my last infusion will be. No matter what, the possibility of being back in chemo is very real after my liver transplant. Only 25% of transplant patients have no recurrence. For this reason, I don't find it appropriate to ring. But if I can inspire others, I will. This journey isn't just about me—it's about all of us."On April 12, 2023, Tim rang the bell. Not to declare his cancer journey over, but to mark a moment of resilience and hope, right before he underwent a life-saving liver transplant.More than 2.5 years earlier, Tim was told he had terminal colorectal cancer. The road since then has been nothing short of extraordinary: countless treatments, hard decisions, and relentless courage. But also science, community, and the power of the human body.Tim later shared: "This is what the human body is capable of: The liver regenerates, so a living donor can save a life by giving part of their liver—it regrows in both the donor and the recipient. I was told I had terminal cancer, and now I'm NED—no evidence of disease. I had a transplant just seven days ago, and I'm being discharged with nothing more than Tylenol for pain."This moment—the bell, the transplant, the healing—is a reminder that even in the face of staggering odds, there is always room for hope, science, and strength. Tim's story isn't just about survival. It's about the possibility of something more.
Our Federal Policy Manager is back with an important update on the Presidential budget request released last week. The request includes a recommendation to slash the CDC's Division of Cancer Prevention, which funds the CRC Control Program. It's crucial we reach out to our members of Congress to protect this funding. We still have time to fight! Congress holds the power, and we need to raise our voices to ensure colorectal cancer stays a priority.🗣️ Visit the link in bio to take action TODAY.
