Types of Legacy Gifts

Estate Gifts and Bequests

Including Fight CRC in your will or living trust allows you to leave a legacy while ensuring your loved ones are taken care of. You can designate a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after other bequests.

Be sure to follow the instructions for including Fight CRC as a beneficiary.

Benefits:

  • Flexible and revocable: Modify your bequest at any time to adapt to life changes.
  • Tax advantages: Potential estate tax deduction for charitable bequests.

How to Give:

  • Specify the Type of Gift: You can designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or a residual portion of your assets to Fight Colorectal Cancer.
  • Legal Language: Include language such as: “I hereby give, devise, and bequeath to Fight Colorectal Cancer, a nonprofit organization (Tax ID: 20-2622550), located at 134 Park Central Square Ste. 210, Springfield, MO, 65806, [amount/percentage of estate] for its general charitable purposes.”

Gifts of Stocks and Securities

A gift of appreciated securities, like stocks or mutual funds, is a powerful way to make a tax-effective donation.

Benefits:

  • Avoid capital gains taxes on appreciated securities.
  • Receive a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the donated securities.

How to Give:

  1. Initiate the Transfer: Contact your financial institution or broker to transfer your securities to Fight Colorectal Cancer’s brokerage account.
  2. Inform Fight CRC: Notify us of your intent to ensure the transaction is completed smoothly and that you receive an acknowledgment of your gift.

IRA Charitable Rollovers

Individuals aged 70½ or older can donate directly from their IRAs to Fight Colorectal Cancer, an option often called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).

Benefits:

  • Count your donation toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), potentially lowering taxable income.
  • Gift up to $100,000 annually without any income tax implications.

How to Give:

  • Contact Your IRA Administrator: Instruct them to transfer your desired donation amount directly to Fight CRC.
  • Notify Fight CRC: This allows us to acknowledge your gift for your records.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)

A donor-advised fund (DAF) lets you manage your charitable giving through a single account, offering flexibility in supporting Fight CRC.

Benefits:

  • Immediate tax benefits when you contribute to your DAF.
  • Support Fight CRC when it best fits your philanthropic goals.

How to Give:

  1. Recommend a Grant: Request a grant distribution from your DAF to Fight CRC. You can choose a one-time or recurring contribution.
  2. Share Your Intent: Notify us of your DAF grant recommendation so we can ensure your gift is recognized accordingly.
