Age at Diagnosis: 30
My husband Owen was diagnosed with early-onset stage 4 CRC in the sixth year of our marriage at age 30 in 2019. Being a registered dietitian and healthcare professional, I was shocked to learn how prevalent this cancer is in young, seemingly healthy adults at the prime of their lives. Through the pandemic and course of 2.5 years, Owen bravely endured almost 90 chemo treatments, 20 rounds of radiation, a major liver operation, and colon resection, but the cancer proved to be an aggressive foe, and he gained his angel wings on February 3, 2022. Looking back 3 years later, it still seems surreal, and I still continue to be shocked at the stats for young adults in this cancer. I finally feel some of the fog lifting and that I can begin to advocate and do my part to spread awareness and advocacy in his memory.
