Colon - Stage III |

Age at Diagnosis: 41

In April 2023, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. I thought my gastrointestinal issues were due to pregnancy and that they would subside post delivery. That did not happen and my symptoms continued to get worse. My G.I. doctor prescribed me medication for constipation and sent me home. After no improvement and an increase in blood in my stool, they finally scheduled me a colonoscopy. This process took six months. My colonoscopy took 10 minutes for the doctor to find a stage three cancerous colorectal tumor. My husband and I were devastated and retreated to the parking lot to cry. As a 41-year-old, mother of four, with no family history of colon cancer, this was never something I thought I would have to navigate.
