Fight CRC grantees in Colorado worked to advance legislation that ensured access to colorectal cancer screening at 45 for those at average risk and remove out of pocket costs for patients needing a colonoscopy following an abnormal non-invasive screening test. The legislation had strong support in both chambers of the legislature, but unfortunately the governor remained opposed, and it was unable to move forward.

Colorado Cancer Coalition (CCC) is a statewide, nonpartisan, multidisciplinary, coalition providing education, networking, best practice sharing, and partnership opportunities for those working in oncology care and support. CCC supports the needs of Coloradans to prevent cancer, detect cancer early, and enhance quality of life for survivors and their caregivers by disseminating education, cancer resources, and connecting patients and their caregivers to opportunities to advocate for better cancer outcomes in Colorado.
Colorado Colorectal Cancer Screening Coverage
Colorado state law requires insurers to cover the total cost of the preventive health care services outlined by the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). For colorectal cancer screening, this includes average risk patients aged 45 and older and includes high-sensitivity guaiac fecal occult blood test (gFOBT), fecal immunochemical test (FIT), stool DNA test (such as Cologuard), colonoscopy, CT colonography, and flexible sigmoidoscopy.
