Fight CRC grantees in Nebraska introduced legislation to ensure access to colorectal cancer screening beginning at age 45 for those at average risk and remove out of pocket costs for colonoscopy following an abnormal non-invasive screening test. They also hosted a legislative roundtable with key stakeholders to discuss the legislation and address any opposition.

Nebraska Cancer Coalition NC2 is a statewide 501c3 nonprofit agency with a 20-year history of working collaboratively with partners in the cancer arena across Nebraska. They began as an extension of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) after the award of a Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) to fund Nebraska to develop a Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCCP).
Nebraska Colorectal Cancer Screening Coverage
Nebraska state law requires state regulated health plans (except for short-term health plans) and any self-funded employee benefit plan to include coverage for colorectal cancer screening. This coverage applies to any asymptomatic person 50 years of age and older.
Screening coverage includes a maximum of one screening fecal occult blood test annually and a flexible sigmoidoscopy every five years, a colonoscopy every ten years, or a barium enema every five to ten years, or any combination, or the most reliable, medically recognized screening test available.
Nebraska is the 13th deadliest state for colorectal cancer in the U.S.
