After putting off PCP’s recommendation of having my first colonoscopy in November of 2021 because I was only 48 years old, my OBGYN basically scared me into scheduling it by sharing colon cancer statistics for Black women, so I had my screening a month later only for a tumor to be found. But no one ever said I had Cancer. Everything moved really quickly with surgery scheduled in early January, less than 30 days from discovery of the tumor. I ended up contracting Covid, which pushed my surgery to February of 2022. The surgeon removed over a 1 1/2 feet of my colon including the ileum. When I attended my first post-op appointment, I was referred to an Oncologist. That was when I realized that that I had Cancer. The Oncologist said that I had a benign presentation of a malignant tumor, making me a Survivor.
