这一切始于一场因COVID-19而取消的婚礼。

Fight CRC Senior Marketing Manager, Elizabeth and her now-husband, Phillip, planned their wedding for August 2020 at the Greenhouse Two Rivers in Springfield, Missouri. It was their dream wedding, with Elizabeth pouring her heart and soul into every detail, like most brides-to-be. Unfortunately, one week before the wedding, Elizabeth’s grandparents contracted COVID-19 and the wedding was cancelled. Crushed by this decision, the couple made the most of an unfortunate situation, and eloped in the beautiful mountains of Vail, Colorado.

Once they returned from Colorado, they took a look at the logistics from their cancelled wedding. They’d already reserved a venue…a cake…tons of food…a DJ…none of it was refundable. And that’s when it happened — the newlyweds made lemonade out of lemons and decided to donate it all to Fight CRC for a future event.

In December 2021, Fight CRC hosted the first-annual Night with the Stars using Elizabeth and Phillip’s generous donations. It was a night unlike ever before, celebrating the colorectal cancer community and Fight CRC’s impact in its home-base of Springfield. Elizabeth said it was everything she and Phillip had ever hoped for.

Although we are a national organization, much of our impact is right here in Springfield. Fight CRC has distributed thousands of patient education and resources to local cancer centers and healthcare clinics, helping raise awareness and support those who’ve been diagnosed.
