Clinical Trials and First-Line Metastatic CRC: What Patients Should Know Before Starting Treatment - Fight Colorectal Cancer

Clinical Trials and First-Line Metastatic CRC: What Patients Should Know Before Starting Treatment

When: Thursday, August 27 2026

Starting treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer can bring many questions. What does “first-line treatment” mean? How do doctors decide which treatment approach to recommend? When might a clinical trial be part of the conversation?

In this webinar, Fight CRC will bring together medical and patient perspectives to help patients and care partners better understand first-line treatment decisions and the role clinical trials may play in metastatic CRC care. Dr. Christopher Lieu (Professor of Medicine in the Division of Medical Oncology and Associate Director for Clinical Research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine) will explain key terms, common decision points, and what patients should know when discussing treatment options with their care team. Fight CRC Research Advocate Bill Thach will share practical insights from his lived experience navigating multiple lines of treatment and clinical trials.

This session will focus on education, plain-language explanations, and patient-centered questions to support informed conversations with care teams.

You’ll leave this session with a clearer understanding of:

  • What “first-line treatment” means in metastatic CRC
  • How clinical trials may fit into treatment planning
  • What informed consent means and what patients should ask before joining a trial
  • How to use resources such as ClinicalTrials.gov and ChatCRC to learn about clinical trial options
  • Questions to ask your care team when considering treatment or trial participation

This webinar is supported by Pfizer. Fight CRC independently develops and curates all content.
