My name is Aaron Hutson and I am a colon cancer previvor (survivor through screening).
At 10 years old, I received a colonoscopy to screen for colon cancer and polyps were found. This led to screening every 2 years. At 20, my polyp counts grew and my screening changed to yearly. At 25, my polyp counts grew to the thousands, and my screening increased to 2x a year. The surgery to remove my large intestine was recommended. My doctor said to me “you already have the gene that causes cancer and it would be better to recover from surgery and not on chemo.” At 30 years old, I chose to have the surgery. I flew to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota to have it done.
12 years later, I continue screenings 2x a year. I am forever grateful for the screenings, for my health, for my wife and daughter, and family and friends.
