Zach experienced symptoms beginning in the summer of 2022, including random abdominal cramping. After a visit to the doctor, an ultrasound, initially intended to check his gallbladder, unexpectedly revealed liver lesions. An MRI followed, showing shadowing on the right side of his colon, leading to a colonoscopy and a diagnosis of stage IV colon cancer at age 39. Zach underwent three surgeries and numerous IV chemo infusions, but the treatments eventually stopped working in July 2024. He remained an incredible husband and father throughout those challenging two years. Zach passed away on December 22, 2024. In one of our last conversations, he expressed, “I thought I had more time, I thought I fought hard enough.” He did, but the system didn’t fight hard enough for him.
