Rectal - Stage IV |
Age at Diagnosis: 35
For years, I had been experiencing rectal bleeding that was attributed to hemorrhoids. Things intensified during & after I had my 2nd child. I had experienced thinning stools, a need to constantly go to the bathroom without being able to “fully” go, and low back pain. I had met with my OBGYN to see if my symptoms could be related to fibroids or endometriosis. Everything was normal.
I was then seen by a GI doctor, who scheduled me for a colonoscopy (but never did a physical exam). Again, my symptoms were attributed to having hemorrhoids and postpartum. A month before my colonoscopy, I went to the ER as symptoms became unbearable. A CT scan showed a mass on my rectum, liver, and lung nodules. I am currently undergoing chemotherapy, and my most recent scans showed that treatment has been effective.
