After months of unexplained anemia, a persistent cough, and abdominal pain, I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer on January 30, 2023. Doctors treated me for asthma and anemia, but a nurse practitioner pushed me for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. The biopsy revealed cancer and a CT scan showed cancer in my sigmoid colon that had metastasized to my liver. I have been through multiple rounds of chemo, surgeries, and more than most people ever see or hear, but I keep fighting until I can’t. If I had been screened earlier, I wouldn’t be in this fight. After surgery, chemo, and more, I was in remission for a year, but it returned. I’m still fighting, and I urge everyone—get screened early, advocate for yourself—early detection could save you from this battle.
