Age at Diagnosis: 25
"Don't be afraid to share your story. You never know who is out there."
My maternal grandmother was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 53 and then was diagnosed with endometrial cancer 5 years later. Two of my uncles were also diagnosed with colon cancer; my uncle was 35 when a juice cleanse dislodged the tumor. They decided to see a genealogist and Lynch Syndrome on the MLH1 gene was discovered in our family. My mom is considered a “carrier” of the gene; my sister does not have the gene. At 25, I was told that I had to get a colonoscopy due to our family history. On October 13, 2016, what was supposed to be a routine procedure turned into a pre cancer diagnosis and a Lynch Syndrome diagnosis. On December 2nd, 2016, I had a partial resection of the transverse colon to make sure the cancer had not spread. It was caught early enough and I have been cancer free since then.
