MEET JO-ANNJO-ANN-SURVIVOR

Jo-Ann Cluney, Survivor Pickering, Ontario, Canada

JO-ANN'S STORY

I was diagnosed with Stage IIIB Colorectal Cancer in November of 2011.  I had a colon resection within two weeks of diagnoses and started chemo and radiation in January of 2012.  Not knowing anyone who had been through this, I was very scared of the unknown.  Thank goodness for sites like this to learn from others who have been there.  My chemo finished in July of 2012 and I have been in remission ever since.  I want people to know that I had none of the signs of this cancer.  Just some pain in my side once in a while.  Thank goodness for a doctor in the emergency room who did a CT Scan and sent me for a colonoscopy. At 48 years old my colon was almost completely blocked with a tumor and I would have had two more years until a colonoscopy would have been normally scheduled. That test saved my life!

JOANN'S ADVICE

Stay strong and don't be ashamed to talk about it.

WHAT ONE MILLION STRONG MEANS TO JOANN

One Million Strong brings the embarrassment of the subject to a halt.  It also brings to light that this cancer exists everywhere and we need to work on a cure.
