Colon - Stage IV |

Age at Diagnosis: 34

After pregnancy and delivery, my constipation didn’t go away as expected. Suddenly there was a new symptom, abdominal pain. The pain got to be too much and I asked my husband to come home from work and take me to the ER. In the ER, I was given pain meds but as soon as they started to wear off I was back to excruciating pain. I refused to go home and my gynecologist refused to give up. Finally I was admitted and after many other tests they decided to do a colonoscopy. That’s when they found the mass in my colon. They couldn’t get the scope past it so they took a biopsy. Later that evening the general surgeon waited til I was completely alone. “I’m so glad you’re alone. I don’t like to give this kind of news in front of family. You have cancer.” I was alone. The nurse helped me to call my family as I cried.
