About: Wendy was diagnosed with stage III colorectal cancer, during a routine colonoscopy at age 55 in December 2019. Wendy had no symptoms or indication that anything was wrong before having her colonoscopy! After her diagnosis, she began researching colorectal cancer and found the Fight CRC website. Over the course of her treatment and surgeries, she found herself visiting the website often to gather facts, or gain more knowledge about the disease she was battling. She also loves the support Fight CRC offers and immediately set a goal for herself to join Climb for a Cure and raise both funds and awareness for colorectal cancer. This year’s climb marks Wendy’s third year participating in Climb for a Cure.

Why Wendy Climbs: “I climb to spread awareness and share my journey with others who are walking this same path I have walked. I climb to lend support to those that need it, and spread awareness. It’s so comforting to know you are not alone. I climb for myself and ALL my fellow warriors.”

One thing that keeps Wendy motivated: “I always push myself to be the best version of myself that I can be. Being healthy and proactive are top priority for me. I strive every day to push through the challenges and make each day count.”

Her advice to Climbers: “There is so much that can be shared with all these groups. If I had to say one thing to patients, I would say, ‘Be kind to yourself.’ To caregivers, I would say, ‘Make time for yourself and have your own support system.’ To survivors, I would say, ‘You are my heroes, and you are all warriors!’
