There are people near and dear to me that have suffered from this disease and raising awareness through such a great event means the world to me. Coming together as one collective unit to accomplish a common goal is the metaphor for what we’re trying to do in tackling this terrible disease. Proud to be a part of this amazing day two years running now. – ANDREW MCDOUGALL “What an amazing day hiking, connecting, and climbing together. We were deeply inspired by incredible stories of strength and love. We are in this fight together forever and cannot wait for next year.” – CHRISTINE BAETA Fundraising We Climb for a Cure exploring new terrain for life-changing research. Each mountain we climb — every road we walk down — elevates the standard by raising funds for research in the fight against colorectal cancer. Our overall fundraising goal for 2022 Climb for a Cure is $250,000 to support our Path to a Cure for colorectal cancer, as we work to empower and inform patients while driving policy change and breakthrough research. Based on a series of missteps from their doctor and hospital, they found themselves not trusting the healthcare system. They had a friend who was connected to Fight CRC and made the call immediately to connect Mary Beth with us. Mary Beth has never looked back! Her experience with Fight CRC only strengthened her commitment to support Fight CRC. Maia Walker, Lead Curator of the Fight CRC Trial Finder, talked Mary Beth through resources and left her with hope. Maia convinced Mary Beth to reach out to more than one doctor – seeking second and third opinions as they tried to determine their next steps. Fight CRC gave Mary Beth hope. Although Mary Beth’s husband passed away in December 2021, she has since learned that we must be our best advocates for ourselves and those who follow in our footsteps. Mary Beth’s family was devastated by colon cancer, and by hosting Climb for a Cure, they plan to contribute to the very research that led her to this point. Why Mary Beth climbs: “My sons and I want to contribute to the cure – to provide cutting-edge research and to raise awareness of colorectal cancer – and support those in need of our support, as well as bring together a community of caring for all of us who have been devastated by this horrible disease.” One thing that keeps Mary Beth motivated: “I need to stay active. This disease has left me heartbroken, but I am forever connected with others who share my heartbreak. We need to do everything we can to help others end this disease, provide for more research, and share the resources that Fight CRC has collected. Fight CRC has become my TRUSTED partner at a time when my family and I lost faith and trust in the medical profession. Finally, we need to continue to spread awareness of the need for screening. I now have two boys who will need early detection screening. We need to stay ahead of the curve. Screenings are not ’embarrassing’ when your life is at stake.” Her advice to Climbers: “Stick together: Hope will prevail when we work together and support each other.” Jerianne Gerloff Climb Host Jerianne Gerloff Climb Host About: Jerianne’s family connected to Fight CRC when her ex-husband Phil Gerloff, the father of their two sons, was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer in 2018. Through her employment with Pfizer, working on state policy and advocacy issues, she was fortunate to have one of her colleagues introduce her to Fight Colorectal Cancer. She immediately connected Phil to Maia Walker, lead curator of the Fight CRC Trial Finder. Maia was very helpful to Phil with answering his questions and walking him through resources. Jerianne said, “A diagnosis like this is devastating to an individual and their whole family. Having an organization like Fight CRC available to provide support gives everyone well-needed clarity and hope. Jerianne and her family and friends participated in the first-ever ‘Kropp Gerloff Strong’ Climb for a Cure team in Northern California last year, and it was SO incredibly inspiring to be a part of that day with Phil and Michael Kropp, surrounded by their family and friends who love them.” Jerianne looks forward to making this second annual event even bigger and better, and she is honored to be a Climb host this year. Why Jerianne climbs: “It is important to me and to my sons to come together with the community of people who love their dad and to celebrate hope. Fight CRC is an amazing organization connecting people who have been impacted by this awful disease with cutting-edge research and treatment. Doing all we can to support Fight CRC, so they can continue to provide people with the help they need in their time of need is very gratifying.” One thing that keeps Jerianne motivated: “There are so many things throughout Phil’s long journey with this devastating illness that we have no control over. Being more engaged in advocacy and working with Fight CRC is one very important way to feel like I am doing something for him and for my sons. Anything I can do to support an organization that is helping others find hope, and providing resources and education is incredibly worthwhile for me. When Phil got his original diagnosis and I contacted Fight CRC, I will never forget that they emailed me right back, and it was late on a Friday. I vividly remember how comforting that was. I know they have helped countless others to feel that way, and that is very meaningful to me. Her advice to Climbers: “Just remember that every little bit counts. Coming together to support our loved ones and each other, while also supporting an organization doing amazing work to fight this horrible disease is a blessing.” Natalie Mologne Climb Host Natalie Mologne Climb Host About: Natalie connected with Fight Colorectal Cancer last year, while supporting her boyfriend Alex and his family, as his father Michael battled colon cancer. Natalie was inspired by the advocacy, fundraising efforts, and support that Fight CRC offered throughout not only the Climb, but throughout Michael’s journey. Natalie is very excited to help host the Climb this year! Why Natalie climbs: “I climb so that I can be an advocate, especially for my peers, for colon cancer screening. I climb so that I can help contribute to the research that needs to be done, so no other family has to go through the heartbreak that Alex’s family did. I climb because this cancer is impacting people at younger ages, we need to do what we can to spread awareness to others.” One thing that keeps Natalie motivated: Natalie is motivated by all of the research and medical advancements that occur every day. She is hopeful for a cure and is motivated to contribute in any way she can. Her advice to Climbers: “Keep climbing and keep fighting. It is because of you that one day this world will be cancer-free.” Other Locations Bozeman, MT More Info Bailey, CO More Info Houston, TX More Info Create Your Own More Info Back to Top
