Bruce:
Two years has passed since you left us and the grief is not getting any easier with time. If the age for screening had dropped from 50 to 45 just five years sooner, you’d be here with us today. All you ever wanted was to ensure no one else’s family had to go through what you went through, what we went through, what we are still going through without your physical presence here on earth with us today. You ARE still saving lives though. Each time someone shares their story of you sharing your story, we know your suffering and death were not in vain. It brings us to our knees to know how hard you worked to advocate for early diagnosis. It wasn’t work to you though. It was a conversation with a friend, fellow firefighter or stranger. Your legacy also lives on through us, through your firefighter brothers/sisters and through Bruce’s Bucket Brigade, The Bruce DeArk First Responder Cancer Education Program through the Colon Cancer Prevention Project. Save a place for me, babe, I’ll be there soon…

Your loving wife,

Janet
