Patients & Survivors Stage III Rectal Cancer Michigan
Back to Champion Stories

Story: “I was diagnosed with stage III rectal cancer at age 41 on September 24, 2020. In mid-July I had some rectal bleeding and was immediately concerned so I found a doctor online and made an appointment. The doctor examined me, and we discussed my family history (history of polyps and colon cancer). The doctor told me I had an external prolapsed hemorrhoid and didn’t think I needed a colonoscopy. Three weeks later I went back because it had gotten worse. I pushed to have the colonoscopy and now I’m about to begin my treatment.”

Advice: “Be an advocate for yourself! Trust your gut when it comes to your body! Know your family history and push to get tested!”
