Patients & Survivors Stage II Colon Cancer Mississippi
Back to Champion Stories

Story: "I was on vacation August 8, 2020, when I experienced severe abdominal pains. At 3:30am I went to the ER. Due to COVID-19, I was alone when I was told the result of my CT scan: full blockage of my colon. Five days later, I had a resection. I was 'lucky' to be diagnosed at 'only' stage 2, and I chose oral chemo. I am at the halfway point of Xeloda treatment. I feel guilty, worthless, and low energy many days, but I work as much as I can.

"I feel guilty for the toll this has taken on my family. I feel guilty for being 'only’ stage 2. I feel guilty for being angry about this. I feel angry at God. I feel scared to death."

Advice: "Don’t give up. Have faith."
