"Take it one step at a time. Be gentle with yourself, even on hard days"
I was diagnosed with stage iv colon cancer in 2017. Leading up to my diagnosis I had blood in my stool, constipation, and extreme fatigue. As a new mom, my symptoms were dismissed as normal postpartum issues until an ER doctor took me seriously. After extensive testing and a transfer to a larger hospital, I learned I had stage iv colon cancer with lesions on my liver. I can still remember the shocked, unbelievable feeling of hearing the diagnosis. After years of struggling to get pregnant, I was at risk of not seeing my 10-month-old son grow up. However, after six years of chemotherapy, two major surgeries, and countless scans and blood draws, I am now in remission. While fear still lingers, I do not take a single day with my son for granted.
