Mediante la detección y extirpación de pólipos precancerosos (adenomas) that can develop into cancer, colorectal cancer can be stopped before it ever starts. In addition, screening for colon cancer can detect it early when it is most curable.

Attendees will have the opportunity to receive colon, mammogram, dental, HIV/Hepatitis C and other health screenings and obtain information on preventive care from medical and research experts. As part of the event, live entertainment, games, prizes and healthy food will be provided. This years’ special guest speaker, colorectal cancer survivor Vicegobernadora Rebecca Kleefisch will share the story of her cancer journey.

Acerca del cáncer colorrectal

El cáncer colorrectal (cáncer de colon y recto) es el 2nd leading cause of cancer deaths of men and women combined. In 2015 it’s estimated there will be approximately 137,000 new cases diagnosed and 50,000 deaths. Although incidence of colorectal cancer cases has been on the decline since 1985, SEER data on colorectal cancer shows that rates among those diagnosed under age 50 have increased.

Fight Colorectal Cancer is a community of activists who find it unacceptable that colorectal cancer – a preventable disease – is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. In 2005, we were founded by survivors and family members who believed in making a difference. Since then we have grown to be a leading, national nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. known for our advocacy. Our team plays an important role in making medical information practical for survivors and their families and provides trusted resources that guide patients from diagnosis through survivorship. We unite the colorectal cancer community by empowering anyone impacted by this disease to share their story, advocate for better policies and get involved in the research process. We are one million strong and we won’t stop fighting until there’s a cure.
